Symptom:
The salt levels in the brine tank are not changing over extended periods of time.Solutions:
Regeneration is not occurring:
Check the last regeneration: When was the last regeneration cycle completed?
Assess water usage: Has there been typical water usage? How many gallons remain before the next regeneration is triggered?
No water entering the brine tank during the brine cycle:
Manual regeneration test: Initiate a manual regeneration by holding the "REGEN" button until the motor activates.
Check water flow: Ensure the water is flowing in the correct direction. Confirm water is entering the brine tank during the Fill cycle. Note: The system is set for "PRE-FILL," meaning water should already be present in the brine tank before regeneration begins.
Fill cycle not properly programmed on the PC board:
Confirm Fill cycle programming: Verify that the Fill cycle is included in the regeneration programming. You can do this by reviewing all cycles during a manual regeneration.
Add missing Fill cycle: If the Fill cycle is missing, refer to the programming guide to add it.
Brine tank flow restrictor is dirty or clogged:
Check the flow restrictor: Inspect the brine line flow restrictor to ensure it is free from obstructions that may be preventing water flow.
-
Symptom:
The water is not being pulled from the brine tank during the Downflow Brine (DN BRINE) cycle or regeneration.
Solutions:Clogged or Damaged Injector:
Check for Suction: During the DN BRINE cycle, verify if there is suction from the brine line. If not, proceed to the next step.
Inspect the Injector: Ensure the injector is not damaged and that no debris is blocking the pinhole. You can clean the injector using CLR or Lime-A-Way. If it remains non-functional or damaged after cleaning, replace it.
DN BRINE Cycle Programming:
Verify DN BRINE Cycle: Ensure that a DN BRINE cycle is included in your regeneration programming. You can check this by reviewing all cycles during a manual regeneration.
Add a Fill Cycle: If a Fill cycle is missing from the master programming guide, you should add one.
Dirty/Clogged Brine Tank Flow Restrictor:
Inspect and Clean the Restrictor: Examine the brine line flow restrictor to ensure it is free of any obstructions that might impede water flow. Clean as necessary.
Potential Damage to Stack Assembly and Piston:
Check Water Direction and Flow: Ensure water is flowing correctly and that both the injector and flow restrictors are clean.
Inspect and Replace Components: If damage is observed in the stack assembly or pistons, or if the water flow remains incorrect, replace the damaged components. Common issues include warped or ripped o-rings; ensure these are inspected and replaced if needed.
-
Symptoms:
Water quality is not improving after passing through the unit.
The system is not fully removing the targeted substances from the water.
Solutions:
System Overloaded:
Perform back-to-back regenerations.
Adjust the system to regenerate more frequently.
Try re-saturating the media by adding soda ash to the brine tank:
Add soda ash to the water in the brine tank.
Manually regenerate until the DN BRINE cycle completes, then unplug the unit and let the soda ash sit in the media tank overnight.
Plug the system back in and allow it to finish the regeneration.
No Salt in Brine Tank:
Fill the brine tank with salt and perform back-to-back regenerations.
Damaged Media:
Check the salt type:
Avoid using "system savers," "Iron out," "Resin Cleaners," or acid-based additives with CR-100 and CR-200 media.
Test iron levels in the raw water.
Ensure there’s no bacterial growth on the media:
Pour 1 cup of bleach into the brine well, then run a regeneration.
If necessary, replace (re-bed) the system with new media.
-
Solutions for Water Flow Issues:
Clogged or Damaged Injector:
Check for suction: Ensure there is suction from the brine line or elbow during the DN BRINE cycle.
Inspect the injector: If there’s no suction, check for obstructions in the pinhole or damage. Clean with CLR or Lime-A-Way. If cleaning doesn't help, replace the injector.
Incorrect Cycle Programming on PC Board:
Verify all cycles: Ensure all cycles are correctly programmed by running a manual regeneration.
Edit cycles if needed: Adjust the programming as necessary using the master programming guide.
Brine Tank Flow Restrictor Blockage:
Check flow restrictor: Ensure the brine line flow restrictor is free from any blockages that could stop water from flowing.
Drain Elbow Flow Restrictor Blockage:
Check the drain elbow: Inspect the drain elbow line flow restrictor for blockages that might stop water from flowing.
Damaged Stack Assembly or Piston:
Inspect assembly and piston: If water isn't flowing correctly, check the stack assembly and piston for damage.
Replace parts if necessary: Replace damaged parts such as warped or ripped O-rings.
-
Possible Causes & Solutions:
Low salt in brine tank (Alarm activated):
Solution: Press any button to stop the alarm, then add salt to the brine tank.
Plugged injector and/or injector screen:
Solution: Clean or replace the injector and screen.
Drain line plugged or restricted:
Solution: Clean the drain line to remove any restrictions.
Dirty chlorine generator probes:
Solution: Clean or replace the chlorine generator.
System drawing in air:
Solution: Tighten all fittings in the brine system.
System "short brining":
Solution: Clean the brine line flow control, check for salt bridging or hardened salt around the brine well, and increase brine refill time.
Dirty or damaged chlorine generator:
Solution: Clean or replace the chlorine generator.
-
Solutions for 100 or 1000 Errors:
Reset Motor Position:
Press NEXT and REGEN simultaneously for 3 seconds to reset the motor.
Perform a manual regeneration to ensure no further error codes appear.
Check the Motor:
Ensure the motor is running and properly connected.
Replace the motor if necessary.
Inspect Drive Gears:
Check the drive gears behind the PC board.
Ensure the flash cards on the gears are not scratched or worn out.
Place the cleanest gear in the middle of the three gears.
Replace any damaged gears.
-
Solutions:
Reset Motor Position:
Press NEXT and REGEN simultaneously for 3 seconds.
Run a manual regeneration to ensure no error codes return.
Replace Battery on PC Board:
The battery may be drained if the system has been powered off for an extended time.
Replace PC Board:
If issues persist, replace the PC board.
